How to make life simple? Steps to declutter mind.
Life is simple if you see it. What if I told you life was always simple? At first, I don't want you to agree to it. But let us at least try to assume that life is simple. Breathe in.. breathe out and repeat with me "life is simple". Voila! You have taken the first step towards decluttering your mind.
Next Step. Take out a piece of paper and categorize your life. Your major headings can be:
1. Personal Life: Time and relationship spent with your innermost core of people, for instance, your mum, dad, boyfriend/girlfriend, a special friend, a sibling, etc. Someone who is there for you through your thick and thin, constituting a personal space with you.
2. Work-life/ Professional life: Your career.
3. Social Life: The people you spend time with right outside your innermost circle: some friends, family friends, work friends, colleagues.
4. ME: Building a good relationship with yourself is one of the most important steps towards building a happier life. Know yourself. Prioritise yourself. Spend an hour on self-care: doing workouts, going for a walk, a beach date with yourself.
And, now think about the problem that is disturbing you. Think about what's bugging you. When you know your problem, troubleshoot. First categorise. Know where your problem lies. Is it personal? Professional? or problems of your mental/physical health? Once categorised, see what can be done to solve. Can it be solved? If yes, take another blank sheet of paper to write down the probable solutions. If not, ask yourself? if the problem cannot be solved, can it be lived with? Most problems of our lives are outside our locus of control. In such a scenario, take your problem, written on a piece of paper, burn it away or flush it down! Note that all sections of your life will not be troubled. And no matter how big the problem is, it can only hinder one aspect of your life. It is for you to decide, whether you're going to focus on the slice of cake that is not with you or the rest of the cake.
Not all problems are meant to be solved. Not every difficulty is meant to be tackled. Be your friend. Hold your hand. And difficult times will pass. Complications will vanish. Perspectives will creep in. Lessons will be learnt. And in the end, you will see life was always simple!
PS. This blog is specially written for overthinkers. I am an overthinker myself. So I understand the value of decluttering one's mind. Here are a few steps towards it. Hope you find your peace too!
